Smile Montreal Now Offers CT-Guided Dental Implant Placement By Patrick Casey on September 23, 2013

Woman smilingSmile Montreal, the cosmetic dentistry practice of Drs. Charles and Patrick Casey in Montreal, has begun using i-CAT® cone beam CT scan technology when placing dental implants. Dental implants are small titanium posts that are surgically placed in the jaw bone to replace lost tooth roots and support dental restorations. In the past, analog x-ray technology and traditional CAT scan technology were the standard methods of determining the optimum placement of dental implants. However, this new digital technology allows the cosmetic dentistry practice to place dental implants more accurately and strategically.

It is imperative that surgeons avoid interfering with the sinuses, blood vessels and nerves when placing dental implants. CT scan technology almost instantaneously provides a highly accurate, rotatable three-dimensional image of the patient’s underlying bone structure, which helps to identify the safest positions for a patient’s dental implants. When combined with laparoscopic surgical techniques, this technology allows Drs. Charles and Patrick Casey to perform implant surgery through a much smaller incision.

“When dental implants are placed correctly, they have the power to change people’s lives,” Dr. Charles Casey said. “Suddenly, their dentures stay firmly in place while eating and speaking. We strive to provide every one of our dental implants patients with the best possible satisfaction, and CT scan technology is the very best way of ensuring that this procedure is a success.”

The i-CAT® system maps the patient’s facial bone structure with a rotating horseshoe-shaped scanner, which many patients find less constrictive and claustrophobic than a traditional CAT scan. i-CAT® also produces far less waste than analog x-ray equipment, which requires film and developing chemicals.

“i-CAT® allows us to provide faster, more efficient treatment, while making our practice more environmentally friendly,” Dr. Charles Casey said. “We are truly excited to be using this cutting-edge technology in our practice.”

Dr. Charles Casey and his son, Dr. Patrick Casey, provide cosmetic dentistry, restorative dentistry, and more to the greater Montreal area. In addition to dental implants, they provide porcelain veneers, TMJ treatment, orthodontics, and preventative dental care.
